Shannon Bickford’s current work explores perception, using transparent objects and reflective surfaces. The paintings address the transformation of light as it bounces off or is absorbed, reflects or is refracted, by a material.  Images include transparent or metallic surfaces combined and recombined with images from the natural world.  The original images may go through various transformations as they are manipulated first by a camera lens and computer, then by placement with other images, and finally by the act of being painted.  This process is a metaphor for the way we see our world, and how what we see is painted by the medium through which we perceive, that medium being ourselves.
