ANN LEEDY

I am a Braille Transcriber for Fresno Unified School District. I received an AA degree in Early Childhood Education from Diablo Valley College in 1973. I also attended Southern Oregon College and California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.

I taught after-school enrichment classes at Wolters Elementary School, Fresno, CA. I also assumed a school-wide grant at Wolters for art enrichment classes. I was able to design lessons to make it possible for blind students to take part in these classes along with their sighted classmates. I taught a nine week GATE art class at Wolters as well. I was a Grant Award recipient and presenter to instructors of English as a second language. The focus of my presentation was the incorporation of art into the acquisition of English as a second language.

I’ve shown my art work in Santa Rosa and Sacramento CA. More recent showings include venues in Fresno CA: Fresno Arts Council, Sorensen’s Gallery, Gorgon’s Isle, Lovesong Gallery, Gallery 25, and along with my fellow Gallery 25 fellow artists at the Fresno Art Museum. I’ve been an active member of Gallery 25 since August 2012.

For me, the creating of art is a lively meditation. The discipline of attentive engagement is the expression of an appreciative attitude toward life. As an artist I seek to explore the visceral, sensual, and dreamlike aspects of being alive. My art is a collection of moments cherished, and then joyfully released.
